I came to ceramics later in life, looking for something to do with my hands, to find a creative outlet, community and growth potential.
I attended Sheridan College, graduating with an honours diploma. During that wonderful time, I experienced wood firing and other atmospheric methods of firing a kiln, that really spoke to me.
I am amazed how clay becomes activated once fired. I am experimenting with various glazes and slips to see how that clay surface can have more depth.
I enjoy wood firing, finding friends with kilns and finding a community of interested and passionate makers. I enjoy the time around the kiln and the actual firing of the kiln. I enjoy the problem solving conversations, kiln side and afterwards, trying to determine a new or better way to fire. As with any kiln unload, the anticipation and excitement is always a mixed emotion of wonder, awe and some disappointment.
After a few years of making and firing I’m ready to share some of my work.
